Over the years fund raising within SJC has always be a challenge, especially when we compared to other schools such as WYC.My questions to both candidates are:
1. What do you think the reasons behind this challenge?
2. Your opinion towards the fund raising exercise in the long run
3. How do you propose we can be more effective in the fund raising?
Thank you.
Dear Peter (class of 1979),
Thanks for your questions. You have raised the important issues for all Josephians to ponder on.
I wish to comment to your three points as follows:
1) With reference to the SJC Foundation set up with aim of fundraising for benefits of both SJC and SJPS in the areas of school improvement, teachers recruitment and extra curriculum activities, our school's fundraising team have achieved remarkable results to secure a sum amounting to $12,388,898 as of todate. Thanks to their generous contributions and efforts made. Although we're currently still a little short of the target, I remain optimistic that this is not impossible to achieve through inputs of all old boys and our alumni. Firstly, we may consider to invite new members from our alumni to join the fundraising team who have their connections with various Foundation funds outside SJC which are available in Hong Kong aiming for fostering education. Incidentally, a friend of mine who's chairman of a listed company in HK has recently set up an education fund for such purpose with through HSBC foundation and I am willing to introduce him to our school.
Please refer to the following link for full details on donation to SJC foundation.

2) In the long run, I think we need to form a team of people who have relationship to the individual affluent alumni and old boys becoming a bridge between SJC and them. To make possible larger donation, we need new viable projects which attract eyeballs of the mass public. I have cited in my objectives that we should enhance the school's identity which will inevitably stimulate the multinational conglomerates to provide scholarships and related fund to appreciate for good education to help promoting their company's mission in community services responsibilities (CSR). I happen to have a close friend who's vice managing director of a mufti national group with more than 400,000 employees worldwide and he has suggested me to introduce bright young Josephians to his company for scholarship application to study in Oxford and Cambridge universities with full school fares and living expenses inclusive in their sponsorships.
3) Last but not least, I suggest we should keep ourselves abreast of latest development on policies of Hong Kong Education Bureau and ride on their funding allocated for Government aided schools. Take for example, it came into my knowledge that EDB has already double up on fund allocation during academic year 2019-2020 for PTA entities in schools to advocate high quality seminars for benefits of both students and parents. Also, a lump sum fund namely Life-long learning Fund amounting to $1,200,000 will also be made available to most schools students for their application in different areas with an aim of broadening their visions both locally and overseas. I have friends working in EDB and hope I could become a bridge for our alumni to air our opinions to HKEDB for a better future of our Alma Mater.
Taking this opportunity, I wish to iterate that I have no intention to interfere with the management of SJC or to instill reform to the long tradition of our Christian Brothers' spirit in serving the poor and needy through education for the Youth.
Peter, kindly support me to deliver my loyalty to our Alma Mater becoming a humble servant to render my service financially, morally and spiritually.
To all brother Josephians, are you ready? Do join me to make our school great.
Thanks and regards,
Peter Lee
